 Livewire v3.8.4 Released: Octane Memory Leak Fix and Fetch Redirect Handling
=============================================================================

 Livewire v3.8.4 ships two important backports: a fix for a computed property listener memory leak under Laravel Octane, and improved fetch redirect handling. Here is what changed and why it matters.

 Livewire v3.8.4: What's New
---------------------------

Released on 10 August 2026, Livewire v3.8.4 is a focused patch release on the 3.x branch. It backports two bug fixes from the main development line and introduces a small workflow improvement for the release process itself. Let's walk through each change.

---

### 1. Octane Computed Property Listener Memory Leak Fix

If you run your Laravel application under **Laravel Octane**, you may have encountered a subtle but serious issue: computed property listeners were not being cleaned up between requests. Because Octane keeps the PHP process alive across many requests, any listener that is registered but never removed accumulates over time, leading to a **memory leak** that grows with traffic.

PR [\#10455](https://github.com/livewire/livewire/pull/10455), authored by [@joshhanley](https://github.com/joshhanley), backports the fix to the 3.x branch. After upgrading to v3.8.4, computed property listeners are properly torn down at the end of each request lifecycle, keeping your Octane worker memory stable.

**Who is affected?** Any Livewire 3.x application running under Laravel Octane that uses computed properties. If you have noticed steadily increasing memory usage on long-running Octane workers, this patch is worth applying immediately.

### 2. Fetch Redirect Handling

The second backport (PR [\#10508](https://github.com/livewire/livewire/pull/10508), also by [@joshhanley](https://github.com/joshhanley)) improves how Livewire handles HTTP redirects that occur during a `fetch` request.

Previously, certain redirect responses triggered by Livewire's internal fetch calls could be handled inconsistently, potentially causing the browser to end up on an unexpected page or silently fail. The fix ensures that redirect responses are detected and processed correctly, so your users are sent to the right destination every time.

This is particularly relevant if your Livewire components trigger server-side redirects — for example, after a form submission or an authentication check inside a component action.

### 3. Releases Now Prepared as Drafts

PR [\#10521](https://github.com/livewire/livewire/pull/10521) by [@calebporzio](https://github.com/calebporzio) changes the internal release workflow so that GitHub releases are prepared as **drafts** before being published. This is a housekeeping improvement that gives the maintainers a review window before a release goes public — no user-facing behaviour changes here.

---

How to Upgrade
--------------

Updating is straightforward via Composer:

```bash
composer require livewire/livewire:^3.8.4
```

No breaking changes are introduced in this patch release. Review your `composer.lock` after the update to confirm the new version is resolved.

---

Key Takeaways
-------------

- **Octane users should upgrade promptly** — the computed property listener leak can cause real memory pressure in production.
- **Fetch redirect handling is now more reliable**, reducing the risk of users landing on unexpected pages after component actions.
- The release workflow now uses draft releases, improving the maintainers' quality-control process.
- This is a **patch release** (3.8.3 → 3.8.4); no migration steps are required.

 Frequently asked questions
---------------------------

  Does the Octane memory leak fix in Livewire v3.8.4 require any code changes in my application?No. The fix is entirely internal to Livewire. Simply upgrading to v3.8.4 via Composer is sufficient — no changes to your component code are needed.

   What kind of redirects does the fetch redirect handling fix address?It addresses HTTP redirects that occur during Livewire's internal fetch requests, such as those triggered by server-side redirects inside component actions (e.g., after form submissions or auth checks). The fix ensures the browser is sent to the correct destination instead of handling the redirect inconsistently.

   Is Livewire v3.8.4 a breaking change?No. v3.8.4 is a patch release containing only bug fixes and an internal workflow improvement. There are no breaking changes, and no migration steps are required when upgrading from v3.8.3.
