This collaborative initiative aims to provide a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the current PHP landscape, including how the language is utilized and the demographics of its developers. The survey is designed to reach a wide and diverse audience, ensuring that the collected data truly reflects the broader PHP community. All PHP developers, irrespective of their experience level, geographical location, preferred frameworks, or toolset, are encouraged to participate. What the Survey Covers ---------------------- The "State of PHP 2026" survey delves into various aspects of the PHP development experience. Key areas of inquiry include: - **Developer Experience and Demographics:** Years of experience, age, location, and other relevant demographic information. - **Tools and Frameworks:** Preferred development environments, frameworks, libraries, and other essential tools. - **AI Integration:** How developers are currently using Artificial Intelligence in their workflows and their perspectives on its role. - **Challenges:** Common obstacles and pain points encountered by PHP developers. - **Community Sentiment:** Opinions on PHP's current state and its future trajectory. Why Your Participation Matters ------------------------------ The primary objective of this survey is to create a valuable, shared resource for the entire PHP community. By gathering detailed input, The PHP Foundation and JetBrains aim to gain deeper insights into the ecosystem, which are crucial for effective support and development. As The PHP Foundation stated in their announcement, "To support PHP effectively, we need better insight into that ecosystem." Similarly, JetBrains emphasizes the goal of painting "the most representative picture of the PHP ecosystem and the developers behind it." The aggregated findings will be compiled into the "State of PHP 2026" report, offering valuable perspectives for contributors, maintainers, tool creators, educators, and organizations that rely on PHP. Prizes for Participants ----------------------- To encourage participation, all individuals who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for one of five €500 vouchers. These vouchers are redeemable through Tremendous and are equivalent to the local currency.
